Life’s Too Frantic

So I haven’t been around to blog since late November early December, I hope you all are doing well.

I am keeping busy with work nearly twenty four hours a day but I’ll be trying to post some reviews from the workplace when I get some time.

Quickie reviews won’t be fancy but at least I’ll get to feel normal for awhile.

Miss you guys!

Much Love,

Krissy

Someone to Wed (Westcott #3) by Mary Balogh

When Alexander Westcott becomes the new Earl of Riverdale, he inherits a title he never wanted and a failing country estate he can’t afford. But he fully intends to do everything in his power to undo years of neglect and give the people who depend on him a better life… .

A recluse for more than twenty years, Wren Heyden wants one thing out of life: marriage. With her vast fortune, she sets her sights on buying a husband. But when she makes the desperate—and oh-so-dashing—earl a startlingly unexpected proposal, Alex will only agree to a proper courtship, hoping for at least friendship and respect to develop between them. He is totally unprepared for the desire that overwhelms him when Wren finally lifts the veils that hide the secrets of her past. .

Always the story weaver Balogh does a fantastic job of creating a Cinderella love story with the adage of Alex’s journey.

I liked the process of the h/h learning to love instead of the insta-love even with the attraction including the reasons they married to begin with.

These historicals Balogh writes are a relief from many other genres because its not always the instant swoon, instant love, instant everything without a single thought to creating a foundation for its main couple. If Wren and Alex had been all over it from the get go I don’t think I would have stuck along for the rest of the book but Balogh didn’t fail me.

I love the cover art, I love the story and the characters Balogh creates in Someone to Wed there are just a few things that kept me from completely falling in love that I felt were more of a me thing rather than an issue in the book which kept me rating it with more stars however that doesn’t take from how much I enjoyed the rest of it.

Love the Westcotts.

Until next time book lovers…

Deja New (Insighter #2) by MaryJanice Davidson

Deja Who (An Insighter Novel) - MaryJanice Davidson

Leah Nazir lives in a world where the past can and will come back to bite you in the ass. No, not teething ghosts—reincarnation! As an Insighter, it’s Leah’s job to delve into the murky and (often) deadly former lives of her patients. And she knows a thing or two about danger after killing her mother’s murderer with the help of new beau, Archer Drake.

Isn’t he the best?

Now, it’s time to take their relationship to the next level, but not in any way Leah could have predicted. She and Archer head to Chicago to meet his parents—and try to figure out why Archer’s dad killed his brother decades ago. When someone tries to sabotage their investigation, Leah must decide if the Drake family past is a deal breaker…

I appreciated the second installment to this series more than the first because I felt like there was more depth this time around verses what we got in the first book however that depth also caused quite a bit of confusion as well. The past verse present lay over dialogue was a tad complex for me as the reader as well as poor Leah.

I still enjoy the new concept as the whole reincarnation thing isn’t often used in romance I would like to see more of it in the future.

Confusion aside I felt Davidson did a much better job bringing the reader in this time around, making it worth a revisit to this series. My interest in the third installment is also piqued.

Mila Hart’s first experience with the hot new vampire dating site is a complete disaster. Turns out, her date is wanted for murder! But things turn around when she’s rescued by dashing vampire cop Vincent Ferrer. Dangerous and drop dead gorgeous, he’s just the vampire hottie Mila was hoping for.

Haunted by his past, Vincent can’t risk falling in love again, even if Mila charms him more than anyone he’s ever met. But when the killer from Mila’s first date seeks her out, Vincent is the only one who can protect her. Protecting his heart is a different story…

I vastly enjoyed the differences between this installment verses the first one however its closing for the book was a mirror of the first which was kind of a disappointment since I assumed that it would be different from the first due to the fact that the book for the most part was different. Still I really enjoyed our h/h - the secondary cast is great I loved their personalities I loved the plot which was ten times better than the first in keeping my attention and my enjoying it. Lyons continues to improve and provide us as readers a fantastic series to love.

PS Love the car scene. *wink*

So…

Its the reality when the real world gets in the way of blogging that I realize I haven’t had five minutes since mid October to do a single post or finish the one’s I’d been working on when everything in my life got so crazy that I haven’t had the time to even think about blogging.

I’ve been feeling a big chunk of me has been missing lately and I realized that I’ve been so caught up with life stuff that I haven’t been able to pick up a book to read it or sit down and express how I feel about it.

That’s what I’ve been missing. I lost a fundamental part of me for awhile, but I realize that I need that part of me in my life. No matter how lost I am in the burdens of what I’m having to deal with I’m trying to find time in my very limited schedule to read books and write reviews again. I need that part of me back.

So here I am trying to play catch up. Hope you all have been well. Love to everyone.

Legend claims
When Scotland fell to English rule
The Highland dragons took a vow:
Freedom at any price.

The war may be over, but so long as English magic controls the Highlands, not even a dragon laird can keep his clan safe. What Cathal MacAlasdair needs is a warrior fierce enough to risk everything, yet gifted enough to outwit an enemy more monster than man.

What he needs is Sophia.

Alchemist Sophia Metzger traveled to Loch Arach in search of knowledge. She never dreamed she’d learn to do battle, ride through the stars on the back of a dragon, or catch the eye of a Highland laird. But as her quest turns to sizzling chemistry and inescapable danger, she’ll soon discover the thrill of being caught in a dragon’s claws.

I thought it was really refreshing getting a historical paranormal rather than a futuristic or current day one I especially love the Highland Dragon. Yum.

Two bumps for the author both for her writing style and author voice, I highly enjoyed it.

I favored the character and plot development which was long in detail however considering its the first book starting a new series for the Highland Dragons I thought it was a great start.

I think I really needed something fresh in this paranormal romance genre that didn’t feel as if it was cut and pasted fill in the blank formula that many books these days feel they’ve been doing. I really needed this book at this time. Thanks Miss Cooper for a great read.

They said she was going to be my ruin…
Then let her ruin me.

Caleb Lockhart has everything—wealth, adoration, a brilliant future. Until a chance encounter with a siren in a red dress changes everything. Until he meets the woman he dubs Red.

Veronica Strafford’s past makes it hard for her to trust anyone. Now, kicked out of her apartment, she reluctantly accepts Caleb’s offer for a place to stay.

Caleb feels intensely drawn to Veronica. And, for the first time in his life, he really wants something—someone. Too bad Veronica’s heart might just be the one thing Caleb can’t win.

Chasing Red was an okay read but I would suggest maybe slotting the book as an NA rather than Adult romance due to some of the more immaturity and mentality of its h/h which kind of reminded me of a West Side Story type of romance for the younger minded readers working their way from teen to adult period.

Opposites side of the tracks kind of relationship for those who really like those type of love stories Chasing Red totally works. But I felt there could have been more character development that brought them further along as a couple and as individual people.
